Previously, Health and Safety regulations were enforced by the Department of Labour, and then more recently the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). Worksafe NZ will be responsible for implementing new regulations that come into force early 2015.
Some of the activities expected from the new ministry over the coming months include the development of guidance material explaining how to comply with the new Health and Safety rules, prevention campaigns targeting issues such as farm vehicles (e.g. quad bikes), incentive schemes and personal protective equipment (PPE), along with greater enforcement.
